Properties of Potassium Fluorosilicate

Potassium fluorosilicate (K2SiF6) is white powder or crystal salt material, dorless, hygroscopic, slightly acidic, slightly soluble in water. It can be used as wooden preservatives and insecticides, or to produce synthetic mica and opalescent glass. It can also be used as flux in metallurgy of magnesium and aluminium. 


It is with potassium carbonate or potassium hydroxide and fluorine silicic acid, or potassium chloride or potassium sulfate precipitation and prepared. Generally used for wood preservation, ceramics, aluminum and magnesium smelting and manufacturing of agricultural pesticides, also used in the manufacture of optical glass, synthetic mica and enamel manufacturing.


This product is flammable and toxic. Swallowed or inhaled dust poisoning. Dust can strongly irritates the eyes and respiratory system. Reacted with an acid to release of irritating and corrosive hydrogen fluoride and silicon tetrafluoride gas. The operator must go through specialized training, strict adherence to rules. Proposed operators wear self-absorption filter respirators, wearing chemical protective safety glasses, wear protective overalls on infiltration, wearing latex gloves. Avoid generating dust. Avoid with oxidants, acid exposure. Equipped with spill response equipment
